The Access City Award has been created by the European Commission to reward cities that have prioritised accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Accessible spaces – both physical and virtual – are the first step to equality. If persons with disabilities cannot access transportation, shops, parks, websites and so on, they cannot make their own choices and take control of their lives. A city is accessible when persons with disabilities can, for instance:

  • get information
  • use buses, trams and metros
  • enjoy parks and playgrounds
  • get in and around buildings like the library, sports hall and city hall

The winner and runners-up will receive a monetary prize:

  • 1st place: EUR 150 000
  • 2nd place: EUR 120 000
  • 3rd place: EUR 80 000

Applications must be submitted through this form. Other submissions will not be accepted.

The indicated maximum number of characters available for each reply includes spaces.

Application forms must be completed preferably in English, but other EU official languages will be accepted. No other languages will be accepted.
Disclaimer: the contest documents will be available in all 24 EU languages soon.

Only applications complying with the eligibility criteria will be accepted.

Before filling in the form, please carefully read the accompanying guidance note and the rules of contest available in all the EU official languages.

The secretariat (secretariat@accesscityaward.eu) is available to help in clarifying questions related to filling in the forms.
